Botswana Expedition

Leave the beaten path
to make travel dreams come true

Botswana is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful countries in Africa. It has a landscape like no other and a fantastic wildlife population. The country is largely untouched by human civilization, with a vast wilderness that is home to elephants, leopards, buffaloes and other important members of Africa’s wildlife. Although Botswana has incredible wildlife, there is more than that! Like the Okavango Delta, the largest inland delta, and the Makgadikgadi pan, one of the largest salt flats in the world. Are you up for an adventurous expedition? Leave the beaten path to make travel dreams come true. Let’s go to Botswana!

All our expeditions consist of highlights only. Not just as far as experiences go, but that includes the route and challenges as well. You are guaranteed to return home with a suitcase full of priceless travel memories.

A true remote experience

Botswana has a very low population density. The wilderness is quiet and peaceful, which makes it perfect for travelers who want a more remote experience: think off-road driving through breathtaking nature without meeting anyone, sleeping under the stars and taking the time to get to know other cultures.

Wildlife paradise

From vast golden desert plains to flooding rivers, parched salt pans and vast savannas with migrating mammals: Botswana is an amazing destination for overland travel. The country holds a number of world records, including the world’s largest salt flats and the world’s largest inland delta. It’s also home to the world’s largest concentration of African elephants.

The world’s largest
inland delta

This Botswana expedition starts in Maun, from where we drive through various nature reserves and around the Okavango Delta, the world’s largest inland delta. The Okavango Delta is one of the most inspiring wilderness locations in Africa. It is a paradise of islands, wildlife and vegetation in of the desert.

Savannah, grassland
and salt flats

During this Botswana expedition we travel through unique natural areas you don’t see anywhere else in the world. From areas filled with water and greenery to the vast Makgadikgadi pan with savannah, grassland and salt flats. The Makgadikgadi salt pan was once a lake, covering 10,000 square kilometers.

The best time to spot animals

The expedition takes place during the dry period in Botswana. This is the best time to spot animals because of the low vegetation. Almost 40 percent of Botswana consists of national parks and nature reserves that offer many large areas for animals like elephants, buffaloes, lions, cheetahs, leopards and wild dogs to roam. The water is high at the time we are there, so animals are migrating to the area around the delta. Because it is such a good time to spot wildlife, we’ll go on several wildlife safaris through the best parks of Botswana. And of course we camp in the wilderness as much as possible, in our Bliss Mobils. This way you can enjoy the adventure in luxury.

Practical information

Convoy and teamwork
During this trip, we will have to drive in convoy on some occasions. Mainly during departure and arrival, but also on difficult off-road terrain where you might need to help your fellow travellers. This is exactly why we do these expeditions in small groups; to help each other with challenging passages and any potential recovery. This makes it possible to get to beautiful locations where you would not be able to experience alone.

In many cases you can decide yourself whether you would like to travel independently or if you prefer to join the other adventurers. You navigate by using the road book and the navigation system that we will provide, in which all the waypoints are already programmed. At the end of the day you will meet each other to spend the night. Support and help is always nearby.

No experience is required for this expedition, only a C1 driving license which allows you to drive a vehicle up to 7.500 kg. The intensity of the trip will partly be determined by factors such as weather conditions and your personal physical condition. A healthy body and mind, as well as a well-prepared vehicle, ensure that you will be able to enjoy this trip to the fullest.

The travel pace guarantees that a sufficient number of sights can be visited.
The expedition has been planned in such a way that most of the daily travel distances can be covered in half a day.
